Savage Grace tells the incredible true story of Barbara Daly, who married above her class to Brooks Baekeland (Stephen Dillane), the dashing heir to the Bakelite plastics fortune. A red-haired, charismatic beauty, Barbara is still no match for her well-bred husband. The birth of the couple’s only child, Tony (Eddie Redmayne), rocks the uneasy balance in this marriage of extremes. Tony is a failure in his father’s eyes. As he matures and becomes increasingly close to his lonely mother, the seeds for a tragedy of spectacular decadence are sown.

Trivia & Facts

• The entire film was shot in Spain.

• The beach scenes were shot during a high tourist season, and according to Tom Kalin, German nudists were the most common tourists at the location. They had to be wrangled out of some shots, much to the consternation of the crew, and to Julianne Moore, whose daughter Liv was on set.

• The castle that serves at the Baekelands’ retreat in Mallorca is an 800-year-old castle in Spain, which is allegedly haunted by a ghost named Blanca.

• One of Barbara’s gowns was created specifically for the film by designer Karl Lagerfeld after he heard Julianne Moore was starring.
